Ha. 'Seaman Staines' that's hilarious.

They did make some bizarre stuff the Poms. Remember The Magic Roundabout? That was pretty out there, full of all sorts of weird creatures.

This is right after I just posted earlier, I am gonna keep going. The only one of these I know is Danger Mouse, he was cool. When I think 'British Animation,' I just think of this, unfortunately - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/bristol/somerset/4514306.stm

God, I love this. I love how most of the cartoons you cite are in the 'How to Buy Action Figure Man' sort of genre / era, and you hit it on the head with the vaudville reference with Bugs Bunny and stuff. I remember even as a little kid realizing that alot of their jokes and references were meant for a much older era that I had only sort of vaguely heard of, mostly through Bugs Bunny cartoons. There was just this weird, massive gap inbetween the two styles, with almost nothing in the middle.

I guess the Turtles were cool, they came from real roots instead of just pure marketing. But I'm a few years older than you guys, I was smoking pot and not caring at this point. Enter Simpsons, John K and all the rest and I re-fell in love with animation for the second time.

That was bang on, Ed! I'm reeling from a palpable sense of nostalgia. I still have as strong an affinity for these British productions as I did in primary school. Although there is a hemisphere between the UK and Australia the cultural difference is a slim gradient. I have a hundred anecdotes from childhood for these cartoons.

An interesting thing about Captain Pugwash was how subversive it was! There was a character called 'Seaman Staines' for God's sake!

Ha so true! Neither did I. I guess it was just the exoticness and fanfare that was associated with it. Sort of was the cooler kids version of Marvel, dc or Ninja Turtles trading cards I guess.
